Alumni Discuss Mining Engineering

Delve Deep in a Global High-Tech Industry

Mining is one of the oldest forms of engineering, but these days autonomous 400-ton trucks are doing the heavy lifting to supply materials for green technology and construction, high-performance computing systems, improved urban infrastructure, smart manufacturing and space exploration.

MGE at the University of Arizona is one of the top-ranked mining engineering programs in the nation. Longstanding industry ties, a focus on sustainability, generous scholarships, a mine of its own, global connections and a tight-knit, entrepreneurial community make this the destination of choice for students the world over.

Come learn from and work with the best!

Digging to the Root of the Problem

"If you want to make a big difference in this world, engineering is the place to do it. And mining is one of the areas in which the creative problem-solving abilities and technical expertise of engineers is becoming increasingly important."

David W. Hahn, Craig M. Berge Dean of the College of Engineering

Benefits of Industry Ties

“Our executives and recruiters go out of their way to come to the University of Arizona because the engineers are superior.”

Alyssa Hom, 2016 mining engineering graduate and G2 Ops system engineer

Students Ahead of the Curve

“Many students graduate from college with no real mining experience and do not have the credibility to manage mine operations, but UA graduates are already ahead of the curve.”

Rita Riggs, class of 2010, volunteer with the Peace Corps in Tanzania
