Tips for Getting Started

Admissions to University of Arizona Mining and Geological Engineering graduate programs are handled through the UA Graduate College. Information provided here is summarized. Please see the Graduate College pages specified below and the MGE Graduate Student Handbook (PDF) for detailed information.

Submission Reminders

Remember the following with your application as a decision cannot be entered until all requirements are met and all materials are received: 

  • Official transcript, ensuring if you are from India that it includes official sum of total marks and marks obtained for each semester
  • Competitive GRE general test score, preferably in top 85th percentile
  • GRE Institution Code for the University of Arizona – 4832
  • For international students whose first language is not English, TOEFL or IELTS scores dated no more than two years before the term of application
    • TOEFL minimum score of 79 for the Internet exam and 550 for the paper exam
    • IELTS composite score of at least 7 with no subject area falling below 6
  • Resume, including a list of any published papers
  • One-page summary of research interests and career objectives
  • Three letters of recommendation, with at least one from faculty of doctoral applicant’s MS program

Application Deadlines

For fall admittance only.

  • Funding consideration for all students: Jan. 15 
  • International applicants: April 30 
  • Domestic applicants: July 15
