Scholarship Precursor to Internship
Ryan Hancock, was one of several mining engineering students to receive 2017 George Delos Gardner/Eugene Delos Gardner Scholarships. The financial support made it possible for him to work as a mine manager at the UA’s student-run San Xavier underground mine, do volunteer work and get an internship at Freeport-McMoRan, which led to a full-time job.
"I grew up knowing my family could not afford to put me and my two siblings through college. Without scholarships, I would likely never have gotten this job, because I would have had to work on weekends."
