Among the factors that brought Caterpillar's surface mining and technology headquarters to Tucson were the Old Pueblo's great school districts and long history with the mining industry.

According to Tom Bluth, vice president of Caterpillar Inc., the University of Arizona's mining and geological engineering department was also "a big plus."

MGE's new certificate in global mining will welcome its first cohort of Caterpillar employees in September.

The HQ move will bring 600 employees to the region, creating an estimated economic impact of $600 million.
