Misael Cabrera, the David and Edith Lowell Chair and director of the School of Mining and Mineral Resources at the University of Arizona, wrote an editorial in the utility-focused trade publication Utility Dive.

He shared a co-byline with Bill Zisch, the J. Steven Whisler Head of Mining Engineering Endowed Chair at the Colorado School of Mines.

The editorial covered the role of higher education in the future of America's mineral-reliant future of clean energy.

"Minerals are the foundation of modern technology — powering defense systems, medical equipment, infrastructure, microprocessors, transportation, and energy, particularly green energy," Cabrera and Zisch wrote. "However, in the pursuit of critical mineral independence, perhaps our most crucial resource is a skilled mineral workforce."

The future of clean energy depends on educating the next generation of engineers.
