Michelle Ash of Barrick to Present 13th Annual Lacy Lecture

Michelle Ash, chief innovation officer at Barrick Gold Corp., delivered the 13th Annual Lacy Lecture, Oct. 26. Her talk, "How to Benefit From Technological Disruption," discussed how industry challenges can be overcome through collaboration, innovation and re-imagining the social construct.

Ash, who has more than 20 years' experience in mining and manufacturing, joined Barrick Gold in 2016 and was named chief innovation officer within a year.

"What we're trying to do now with innovation at Barrick is make it mainstream," Ash said in a presentation to her co-workers Feb. 28, 2017. "Most of our people – and this isn't unique to Barrick – see innovation as a technical thing that other people do. It's not. Innovation is something that all of us can engage in and all of us can do; it's everybody's business."
