MGE alum Jonathan Jazwinski, who graduated from the University of Arizona in 2004 with a degree in mining engineering, was recently recognized by the Mining Foundation of the Southwest as a 2020 recipient of the Medal of Merit Under 40 for induction into the American Mining Hall of Fame in Tucson.

"Mining is important to me because it's challenging," Jazwinski said. "I think metal makes the world a better place."

Jazwinski began his career with SRK Consulting in 2003, as a Field Engineer on the BHP Closure Project in San Manuel, Arizona. He worked at multiple mines throughout the state, including Freeport-McMoRan’s Sierrita Operation and Bagdad Operation. He now resides in Nevada with his family as the Mine Manager at Barrick Gold's Cortez operation.

"I'm extremely honored and humbled to be the 2020 recipient of the Medal of Merit Under 40 by the Mining Foundation of the Southwest," Jazwinski said. "I'm proud to be recognized in the industry that has given me so much, and I look to pay that forward."
