Department hosts inaugural teacher training academy
Cu at the Mine, Minerals and Mining Education for Arizona's Green Energy Future Academy spotlights sustainability.
The University of Arizona School of Mining and Mineral Resources hosted its inaugural professional development academy for teachers from June 24 to 27, 2024, providing education on developments in mining and sustainability within the industry.
The Cu at the Mine Academy brought 32 Arizona-based educators for a four-day workshop focusing on the mining industry and how mining can fit into their classrooms and curriculums.
The workshop was made possible through the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation, Capstone Mining, Hexagon Mining, Grupo Mexico-ASARCO Mission Mine Operations, Lucid Motors and MGE.
"I'm only going to recommend mining from here on out to all of the students," one teacher said after the event. "It really ties into everything in life, it truly does."
