Asteroids and other celestial bodies can contain large amounts of precious metals that are rare on Earth. And while the technology to retrieve minerals from asteroids exists, a functioning industry based around space mining requires much more funding and infrastructure. In a recent interview, MGE professor Moe Momayez discussed a plan to use swarms of autonomous robots to search for minerals and potentially even mine them.

"Each robot is equipped with special microchips that work in the same way as the human brain with its huge number of neurons," Momayez said. "The device continuously transmits signals and analyzes analog parameters, such as temperature, lighting, and landscape. All data is processed simultaneously and quickly, which allows the robot to instantly adapt to any situation. The drone chips are connected into one system. Therefore, the experience of one machine is automatically transferred to the whole pack."
